Hospital Policies

We at Advanced Animal Hospital have set a standard of care that is in the best interest of your pet and other patients that come to visit us.  Please note that Advanced Animal Hospital and it's staff stand behind these policies and provide no exceptions.

Leash and Carrier Policy

For the safety of you, your pet, and others we require that your pet be on a leash or in a carrier when in the waiting room.  If you do not have a leash or a carrier one will be provided to you during your visit.

Rabies Vaccine Policy

Milwaukee County requires by law that your dog and cat be vaccinated against Rabies, and that the vaccine stays current for the duration of the pet's life.  We do follow this law and permitting that your pet is healthy, will require your pet to be up-to-date, or be brought up-to-date on the Rabies Vaccine while visiting our hospital.

Anesthesia Requirements

There is always a risk associated with anesthesia, and Advanced Animal Hospital tries to reduce that risk by requireing certain pre-surgical procedures.  Both dogs and cats must have an exam done within one month of anesthesia and have an up-to-date fecal exam.  Dogs must have an up-to-date Heartworm Test and cats must havebeen tested for Feline Leukemia at least once if they are indoor cats, or have a test with in 30 days if they spend any time out doors and are not vaccinated for Feline Leukemia.  Due to the fact that your pet is staying in the hospital he/she is susceptible to disease, there fore they must be up-to-date on certain vaccines.  Dogs need to be vaccinated against Dhpp and Bordetella; cats need to be vaccinated against FVRCP.

Any pet that is 6 years of age or older, and/or is deemed as an anesthetic risk by the Veterinarian, must have blood work the day of, or within one month of the procedure.  Your pet must also have an IV catheter with fluids, a special induction agent, and constant blood pressure monitoring during the procedure.

Appointment Policy

To allow ample time for all patients and schedule surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment.  Emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which is why occasional appointment delay is inevitable.  Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time.
For your convenience drop-off appointments are available.  A"drop off" means you could bring your pet at the time that works best for you and leave him/her with us for a couple of hours.  Once the doctor is done, you will receive a call to go over the diagnosis and to give you discharge instructions.

Boarding Requirements

For your pet's and other pet's safety we require all pets to be up-to-date on a wellness exam and fecal exam.  Your dog must have a current Heartworm test and be current on Heartworm prevention.  He/She must also be currently on Frontline Plus or Revolution for flea control.  Your dog needs to be up-to-date on Dhpp and Bordetella vaccine.  Your cat must have been tested for Feline Leukemia at least once if they are indoor cats or have been tested with in 30 days if they spend any time out doors and are not vaccinated against Feline Leukemia.  He/She also needs to be up-to-date on FVRCP vaccine and currently on flea prevention.  If your pet is not current on any of the above stated we would be happy to update him/her at the time of their visit.

We extend a discount to senior citizens and homes with multiple pets.  If you are 65 years old or older please alert our staff so we can extend our senior citizen discount to you.  If you bring in more than 1 pet at a time you are eligible for our multiple pet discount.  The discount is 10% off of vaccines and services.

Drug Refill Policy

A doctor, patient, client relationship needs to be established for any drug that is not over-the-counter to be prescribed or dispensed.  Only a doctor can authorize or refill for your pet's drug.  The FDA requires that certain drugs be monitored by blood work and sometimes blood pressure monitoring.  Examples of some of these drugs are Phenobarbital, Enalapril, Insulin, Thyroxine, and NSAIDs.  These are just examples of the most common drugs as there are a countless drugs that need to be monitored.
